Product Description
A synthetic rubber base adhesive formulated to provide a strong bond between glass mirrors and a variety of substrates (see substrates). Water and mildew resistant when fully cured. Light tan color.

Packaging
10.5 oz. cartridges packaged 24 per case. 48 cases per skid.

Proven Safe for Mirrors
Laboratory and field tested for compatibility with silver, copper and mirror backing paint. Will not cause silver deterioration on electro copper plated mirrors that meet or exceed federal specifications.

Strength
Over 300 pounds per square inch strength when fully cured. Average cure time is 30 days. Up to 200-psi strength in 24 hours. Up to 280-psi strength in 48 hours. (see Cure Time)

Coverage
Will vary due to thickness of product required. A 10.5 oz. Cartridge will provide a 1/4" bead of product for 35 lineal feet. Two cartridges will install 30 to 35 square feet of mirror and one gallon of product will install nearly 200 square feet of mirror when used in daubs compressed to 1/8" thick and 3.5" in diameter. One daub per square foot is recommended.

Open Time
Once the adhesive is applied the open time begins. The open time ends when the adhesive is compressed between the substrate and the mirror. We recommend no longer than 20 minutes open time. NOTE: open time is very desirable for installations where more than one mirror is being installed at the same site. Some installers prefer to apply the adhesive to all substrates where mirrors are going to be installed at one time. They remove the mirrors one at a time from their truck and install into the adhesive. This allows the mirrors to be handled only once from the truck to the wall, which helps eliminate scratches and breakage. Competitive products have shorter open time.

Cure Time
The time it takes for the solvents to evaporate or release from the adhesive. Once totally released, the product is fully cured. Cure time will vary due to the temperature, amount of air able to reach product, the thickness of adhesive used and the porosity of the substrate. Example: a 1/4" bead of adhesive on non-sealed wood will cure quicker than on sealed wood, metal or glass to mirror. The solvents evaporate easier through the porous substrates. A 1/2" thick x 3.5" diameter blob will take longer to cure than the same blob 1/8" thick.

Build-up / Adjustability of Thickness
Glazers Choice will build out to fill gaps behind mirrors. Due to uneven walls and adjustment for proper reflection lines the adhesive is adjustable up to a maximum of 1-1/2". The adhesive will actually build out to 2" inches but is not recommended due to shrinkage. Since the mastic will shrink when the solvents release, the mirror will be pulled in during cure. Glazers Choice is designed to shrink less than competitive solvent-based adhesives. We advise checking the substrate for uneven conditions before installation. If it is necessary to build out more than 1/2", a wood or plastic shim can be used in conjunction with the adhesive. We also recommend using several layers of Capital Tape's two-sided foam tape as a shim, which will hold the mirror in place and not let it move if shrinkage occurs.

Longevity
Formulated with a combination of synthetic rubbers and anti-oxidants to prevent chemical breakdown, Glazers Choice mirror adhesive will remain flexible, absorb movement and hold firm for the life of the installation.

Working Consistency
10 ºF. to 100 ºF. Product will remain gunnable. Surfaces must be clean and free from moisture caused by condensation. Viscosity will be lower in hot conditions. Glazers Choice is designed to work in all climates.

Shelf Life
Twelve months for unopened containers. Shelf life for a partially used tube will be less. Seal the end of the tube with foil to prevent air getting into tube and setting up the adhesive. Lay the tube on its side after sealing. Do not stand on end as adhesive will settle to the bottom causing an air gap. Store product below 80º if possible. We use foil-lined tubes to hold in the solvents, which prolongs shelf life.

Clean-up
Use mineral spirits before adhesive sets up. If dropped onto carpeting let mastic set up then pull up for removal. A sharp razor blade can be used to cut the very top edge of cut pile carpet while pulling up on the adhesive.

Recommended Adhesive Quantity for Vanity and Mirror Wall Installations
Apply one 2" to 2½" diameter daub, about 1 " thick, per square foot of mirror. The daub should be large enough to compress to a 3½" to 4" diameter size when mirror is set in place.

Heating Equipment and Air Tacking
DO NOT USE heating equipment such as hot cups recommended by Palmer for use with their asphalt base mastic. Air tacking weakens the adhesive strength. Once the mirror is in place do not pull back, breaking the mastic bond, and then reattach. This is called air tacking.

Substrates
Glazers Choice will adhere to the following: Sealed drywall, Non-sealed Woods, Sealed Woods, Mirror to Mirror, Mirror to Glass or Metals, Concrete, Plaster, Hardboard, Sheetrock, Sealed Chipboard, Marble and Tile surfaces which are roughened before applying adhesive.

Furniture Substrates
Caution should be taken with furniture that is coated with, or made of, plastic, polystyrene or vinyl. Testing should be done on these before production runs. Many of these plastics contain plasticizers, which will soften with solvents from the adhesive. Other coatings contain silicone, which is very difficult to adhere to. We will be happy to take customers samples and test with the adhesive and Capital mounting tapes.

Furniture/Medicine Cabinets, Mirror on Mirror, and Mirror Overlay Installations
These require immediate adhesion to prevent Mirror from sliding. Items being packed for shipment must be able to ship within 12 hours. Capital Mirror Mounting tape is recommended in conjunction with Glazers Choice® Mirror Adhesive. Typical installations use 1/16 "fomn tape to hold mirror in place. When applying adhesive, use 3/8" wide beads approximately 12" long then leave a 6" gap then another 12" bead. By alternating bead then gap it allows room for the solvents to release. Do not put mastic in circles or squares as it will trap the solvents inside and take longer to cure.

Acrylic And Plastic Mirrors
We do not recommend any mastics or adhesive without testing, due to the quality of the mirror backing. Many of these mirrors are metal-coated (aluminum) or silver with a paint backing. Acrylic mirrors do not use copper. Some of these backings peel off with little effort or from expansion and contraction over a period of time. Test before using Glazers Choice. There have been many acrylic mirrors installed with rubber based mastic without problems.

Marble
Light colored porous marble should be tested for bleed through. The majority of the time it works very well.

Granite
Scuff surface by lightly sanding. Support mirror. Cure time will be longer due to low porosity of the two substrates.

Tile
Excellent adhesion to tile. Be sure to sand or rough up the surface where adhesive is to be applied. Use on any tile installation where substrate movement is in question. Wooden decks around hot tubs need the rubber-based adhesive for flexibility. The standard tile adhesive becomes very brittle and will break loose with movement.

Unsealed Wood
Very good adhesion to raw wood. Caution should be taken as knots in the wood or plywood can contain pine tar, which will attack mirror backing. A good sealer will handle the pine tar.

Drywall
All drywall must be sealed. Unsealed drywall is a very weak substrate. The paper can be removed easily when pulling on the mirror. Once the wall is sealed and you pull the mirror away from the wall, you take a much larger area of paper due to the sealer holding the paper together. Sealer also keeps out unwanted lime bleed, which can attack the silver. Today drywall is made from recycled paper, which has less strength.

Green Board/Drywall
Green board is a treated drywall used in bathrooms or any area that contains moisture. A good sealer must be used to prevent silver spoilage and loss of adhesion.

Fire Treated and Wolmanized Wood
Seeping of the material used to treat the wood will continue over a period of time causing loss of adhesion and could cause silver spoilage.

Latex Paints
Low priced paints contain large amounts of filler such as talc, which lowers adhesion. Test the surface before installing mirrors by scraping with a knife and looking for flakes of paint. Wet a cloth and wipe the wall. If paint comes off it is water-soluble and will break down. Any paint that leaves residue on a wet cloth when the wall is wiped will need priming.

Epoxy and Polyurethane Finishes
Sand surface where adhesive is to be applied. These surfaces are very hard and smooth making it necessary to prepare the surface for good adhesion.

Textured Walls
They contain silica or sand to give the textured look. The adhesion of the texture to the wall is very low. It must be removed and the wall sealed before mirror installation.

Wallpaper
Must be removed before applying adhesive. Cut or tear a hole where the adhesive is going to be applied, then sand to remove old paste. It is preferable to seal the wall.

Vinyl Backed Safety Mirrors
Do not apply adhesive directly to vinyl back. Cut a hole approximately 6" in diameter they apply a blob of adhesive large enough when compressed to fill the 6" hole. If the adhesive overlaps the vinyl a little it will not affect the safety feature.

Bricks and Cement Blocks
Due to the porous flaking surfaces they must be sealed before applying adhesive.

Particle Board
Is made with compressed wood chips put into a mold. The mold is lined with a wax type of material, which must be removed before the adhesive is applied. Sand surface down to the raw board.

Removal from Substrate
Heat mirror to 200 degrees with a heat gun then apply pressure with a wedge and wait for the adhesive to soften enough to remove. A wire can be used in a sawing motion if there is enough room to got it behind the mirror. If the mirror is mounted on drywall just pull with a suction device in the location of the adhesive spots and the paper will pull away.
